Bikini Waxing
What is the difference between the different types of bikini waxes?
Bikini line just does along the panty line or leg creases.
French bikini does an inch or two in from the bikini line and some off the top.
Brazilian takes everything off except for a strip left at the top of the pubic bone.
Sphinx takes everything off front to back and in between.
Our certified, experienced Bikini waxing specialists will provide the most effective and comfortable waxing experience. Both Natalie and Janelle have extensive experience with Brazilian and Sphinx waxing. We use hard wax for all bikini waxing but do at times bring in soft (strip) wax to eliminate strays or to wax areas outside the bikini area. If you have any questions regarding bikini waxing, feel free to call the spa and ask to speak with Natalie or Janelle. They would be more than happy to answer any questions.
What are the benefits of getting a Bikini wax done?
We are not going to lie to you it does hurt, but it feels great afterwards. It lasts a long time and eventually the hair grows in more sparce and softer and thinner. Basically it lasts longer than shaving and then over time you can wax less often as well. Also use Ibuprofen before you go and after and then you won’t have the inflammation and redness you might have otherwise. At Ciao Bella,we use a hard wax for the majority of the wax and then we may use a soft wax to get any strays. We take pride in our work and want you the client to feel relaxed and happy with the results.
What should I do to prepare for my bikini wax?
Personal hygiene is a must. Taking a shower the day of your waxing is highly encouraged with particular attention paid to the area in question including the area around the anus. Personal hygiene will make the esthetician’s job a bit easier too. Exfoliating in the bikini area is also a good idea to help lift any ingrown hairs.
Clip your pubic hair down to 1/4 inch in length, no shorter please. Pubic hair that is clipped down to a 1/4 high is the easiest to remove and that will cause less discomfort. You can trim your pubic hair with scissors, mustache clippers, or hair clippers. Don’t shave it down to nothing because at the shorter lengths the hair is very stiff and difficult to remove.
If you are especially sensitive to pain, you can take a pain reliever 1/2 hour prior to your waxing.
Are there any health precautions to keep in mind with waxing hair removal?
Some physicians do not recommend hair waxing for persons suffering from diabetes or who have varicose veins or poor circulation as they are more susceptible to infection.
Hair waxing should not be done on areas of skin affected by warts, pimples, moles, or rashes or on skin that is irritated, chapped or suffering from sunburn. Also remember if you are tanning, no tanning for 24 hours prior to waxing and 48 hours post wax.
Can I come in during my period?
It isn’t a good idea to have a waxing during your period for two reasons. One is that your are far more sensitive to pain during your period and the other is for health and hygiene of the esthetician.
How often do I need to be waxed?
The optimum period to redo your bikini wax is every four to six weeks depending on how quickly your hair grows back. It can be waxed most easily when it regrows to a 1/4 inch in length.
Do I need to do anything or not do anything after I get myself waxed?
We don’t recommend showering after a waxing for a couple of hours or swimming/hot tubbing for 48 hours. The shower’s heat seems to irritate the skin immediately following a waxing. Swimming/hot tubbing can expose the newly waxed area to bacteria. Also it is very important to remember to not go tanning for 48 hrs after your waxing. The skin is more sensitive after a wax and can easily burn.
What can I expect during my brazilian/sphinx wax?
Just make sure you shower before appointment! That’s the only thing we professionals ask. We know its strange to be naked in front of someone that you do not know but remember we are professionals. It will hurt a bit. But your waxer will walk you through it. Trust me, she is used to nervous women during this service. Once you get over the first appointment you will feel much better. Just relax, don’t tense your body. If you tense it hurts more.
How long after shaving do I need to wait to wax?
Wait until you can grip the hair with your fingers and pull. The appropriate length is at LEAST a half an inch, otherwise the wax won’t be able to grip the hair, and you won’t have to go through painful plucking! The longer the better. Also being a shaver your first bikini wax may grow in sooner than your next one will. Do not be discouraged, come in and have a second wax and you will be very pleased with the results.
How do I prevent ingrown hairs?
Begin exfoliating gently on a daily basis, but don’t begin exfoliation until 24 hours have passed since you had your waxing done. Also it is a good idea to get a cream to help prevent ingrown hairs, they are very effective if used on a daily basis right after you come out of the shower. The cream will help to prevent bumps and ingrown hairs. One other thing, try to not wear tight clothing for at least 24 hours after waxing. Tight clothing which rubs against your skin are almost certain to cause ingrowns and red bumps. Avoid this if you can.
Why should I see a professional to get a Bikini wax?
The main reason is because it hurts! Also our estheticians are certified and have a minimum of 3 years experience doing this service.
When you get a Brazilian/Sphinx wax done, do they wax your rear, too?
Yes, we do wax the rear. But to be honest, it doesn’t hurt that bad! We do however require that you get on all fours to have the back done. But there is no need to feel embarrassed as we do this all the time and it does not bother the esthetician. It is also the best way to get the job done quickly.
Does a bikini wax itch when the hair grows back?
It can itch for a day or two when the hairs are starting to come through the skin. The best way to help your skin at this time is to exfoliate instead of itching, then there is less chance of causing irritation.
Is it normal to bleed a little bit after a bikini wax?
Yes it is okay, as long is not to much bleeding. The best thing to use after waxing is an Aloe Vera gel.
Is it general practice to have underwear on or off when getting a bikini wax?
For brazilians and sphinx waxes we do require that you remove your underwear. This makes it easier for the esthetician to apply the wax as several strips of the hard wax can be applied at a time. If you are having a regular bikini or french bikini wax done, we do provide disposable panties for your convenience. But you are not required to wear any, if you prefer.
Can I get a spray on tan directly following a bikini wax?
Not the best idea! You should wait at least 48 hours. I would give the skin time to heal, spray can clog the pores and cause your skin to be very irritated. It also would leave a very unique pattern in the spray tan.
In your spa pricing, why does it say “price+” for bikini waxing, what determines the “+”?
The “price +” refers to if there is additional waxing required by the client outside of the bikini area. For example, from the pubic area to your belly button, the buttocks area, back of legs, etc. The esthetician will inform you at the time of your waxing if there will be additional cost for these areas.
Is it safe to have Bikini waxing done during pregnancy?
Yes! Its completely safe! We do recommend it just because its hard to shave down there because big bellies are in the way! Just make sure you trim the hair before you come to reduce the pain but no shorter than 1/4 inch. It is also best to advise the reception when you book that you expecting.
