About the Light Sheer Duet Laser Hair Removal

The LightSheer DUET is a laser that produces a relatively large beam of highly concentrated light, which is absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles. During the procedure, the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, allowing the hair to absorb the light and heat up. As they heat up, the hair shaft and bulb are impacted, which significantly impedes their ability to re-grow. Due to the larger beam size, numerous hair follicles are hit simultaneously, making the treatments much faster than other laser hair removal systems.

The LightSheer DUET allows your technician to choose from two hand pieces, depending on your needs. The LightSheer High Speed hand piece uses breakthrough vacuum assisted technology, in combination with diode laser light, to allow rapid and comfortable treatment of large areas. The vacuum-assist technology gently stretches skin taut, allowing the laser more direct access to the target hair follicles. Back or legs can now be treated in 15 to 20 minutes, without the need for topical numbing creams.

The LightSheer ET hand piece is used for smaller, more delicate areas requiring more precision. Skin is protected by continuous cooling ChillTip Technology, which also significantly reduces discomfort during and after treatments. Contact cooling also compresses the skin, rotating hair follicles toward the surface and allowing the laser beam to target the correct molecules. This process results in highly selective laser contact, minimizing damage to the cells surrounding hair follicles.

Choosing which hand piece to use on a particular area allows our technicians to customize your treatment and attain the quickest and most complete results.

What can you expect?

Laser hair removal requires multiple treatments. This is because the laser works best when hairs are in an early growth stage, known as anagen. Because all hairs are not in the same growth phase at the same time, multiple treatments are required. Most clients need anywhere from 4 to 8 treatments on a particular area of the body, depending on factors such as hair colour, skin colour, and the texture and amount of hair.

The length of each treatment depends on the client; while laser hair removal permanently removes the hairs damaged during treatment and permanently reduces the number of hairs in the affected area, the degree to which clients experience growth of new hairs is variable. Some clients will also require touch-up treatments.

Because the treatment depends on chromophores (specific parts of hair molecules responsible for pigmentation) to absorb the beam of concentrated light, laser hair removal works best on patients with darker hair. However, the same ChillTip Technology that cools the patient’s skin and reduces pain also reduces competing chromophores, typically allowing for removal of fine and light hair.

A better understanding of the entire procedure, including contraindications, your custom treatment plan, and what to expect can all be discussed with your technician during your free Laser Hair Removal Consultation.
